We must raise $50,000 by September 2022 to introduce our Modernization of Scope of Practice bill.
As Naturopathic Doctors (ND) practicing in Maine, we know first hand how the limitations in the ND scope of practice in Maine affect our ability to provide wholehealth care to my patients. Did you know licensed NDs in Maine are unable to provide many essential services which we are educated and trained to our patients? For example:
-
Prescribe many common medications including inhalers for asthma, blood pressure medications, common anti-inflammatories, certain antibiotics, antiviral medications and others.
-
Order testing that requires administration of contrast solution or anesthesia
-
Admit our patients to hospitals in emergencies
-
Provide documentation that is consistently accepted at the state level for public schools, the DMV, disability determination etc.
-
Make insurance-based referrals to other providers and specialists
These limitations create undue burden for both patients and doctors, as well as redundancy in the extremely overburdened healthcare system in our state.
The Maine Association of Naturopathic Doctors (MAND) will be working with state legislators and a lobbying firm to introduce legislation in 2023 and we need your help. We need to raise $50,000 by September 2022 to be able to introduce our Modernization of Scope of Practice bill.
You can make a difference for Mainers by becoming a MAND Supporter. Your contribution of $10, $25, $50 or more will help ensure NDs can provide much needed primary care services.
Naturopathic medicine in the state of Maine is and always has been a grassroots movement. Your support is key to us raising the funds necessary for NDs to secure the right to practice effectively and provide much-needed primary care services to their patients.
Thank you in advance for your support and here’s to a thriving future for naturopathic doctors and patients in the State of Maine.
